A Personal Transition

Colonel Harold Craig Manson has retired from the United States Air Force Reserve effective 1 July 2006, after 34 years of military service. Colonel Manson initially entered military service on 3 July 1972, at the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado. He graduated from the Academy and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force on 2 June 1976.

From 1976 to 1978, Manson served as a Minuteman missile launch officer at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota. Following graduation from law school in 1981, Manson served in a variety of Air Force Judge Advocate positions at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona; RAF Mildenhall, England, and RAF Lakenheath, England. He also served temporary duty with the United Nations Combined Forces Command in South Korea.

From 1985 to 1989, Manson was associate professor of law at the United States Air Force Academy. During this time, he also served a tour as special counsel for space law, arms control, and international treaty compliance at the Pentagon.

Colonel Manson left active duty and transferred to the Air Force Reserve in August 1989. He then entered the California Air National Guard in November 1990. Colonel Manson returned to the Air Force Reserve in May 2003.

Colonel Manson’s military awards include the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Reserve Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal with two service stars.
