House Passes Records Preservation Bill to Help Genealogists

Last week, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 390, the “Preservation of Records of Servitude, Emancipation, and Post-Civil War Reconstruction Act.” The bipartisan vote was 414 to 1. Carter G. Woodson (1875-1950)

Carter Godwin Woodson was the son of former slaves whose early education was spotty, to say the least. But by the time he was he twenty-two, he had obtained his high school diploma.
